Good morning, Vinton County. In the heart of Ross County, a remarkable investment in the future is unfolding as twenty local students receive life-changing scholarships from the Gates Foundation-Ross County Scholar's Fund. Since 2004, this initiative has helped approximately 300 talented young people pursue higher education without financial burden—a powerful testament to how returning residents Larry and Mary Gates transformed retirement into an opportunity to shape generations of local scholars.

While music lovers at the Nelsonville Festival embraced muddy conditions with four-leaf clover hunts and bubble-blowing celebrations, Hocking County officials are adapting to different weather challenges. The courthouse centennial festivities have been rescheduled from June 23 to July 3 due to extreme heat forecasts, giving planners extra time to perfect the 100-year celebration while progress continues on community projects from senior center expansions to trail development throughout the region.

🎓 Twenty Ross County students receive life-changing scholarships for college dreams. The Gates Foundation-Ross County Scholar's Fund has awarded its 22nd class of recipients, supporting both continuing and incoming students. Larry and Mary Gates established the fund in 2004 to help talented, hardworking local students pursue higher education without financial stress. Approximately 300 scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception, with 13 of this year's recipients choosing to attend Ohio University campuses. The Gates couple, who returned to their Chillicothe hometown after retirement, created the fund to "pay it forward" to the community that shaped their lives.

🎵 Rain and mud couldn't dampen spirits at Nelsonville Music Festival. The weekend kicked off with Athens singer-songwriter Chris Biester performing on the Campground Stage as hundreds of early campers arrived at Snow Fork Event Center. Despite occasional downpours creating muddy conditions, festival-goers embraced the atmosphere, with some even hunting for four-leaf clovers on the grounds. Local musicians like Mill Creek Mile and headliner JP Harris delivered soulful performances that had attendees dancing and blowing bubbles into the night. Attendees praised the event's community-driven atmosphere and regional support, with one calling it "the most exciting weekend" they look forward to each year.
