Vinton County • June 20, 2025
Good morning, Vinton County. Downtown Chillicothe is getting a colorful facelift with a new postcard-style mural joining the growing collection of public art transforming our region's historic districts. This vinyl wrap installation on the Chamber of Commerce building isn't just beautiful—it's practical too, featuring heat-applied technology that makes it both removable and graffiti-resistant, proving that preservation and progress can beautifully coexist in our communities.
The future looks bright for both our environment and our leadership. Ava Wood steps into an influential role as Ohio University's newest student trustee following her appointment by Governor DeWine, while conservation champions throughout Appalachia have a fresh opportunity to make an impact through a $125,000 fund supporting everything from community projects to research initiatives. The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio is accepting applications until July 15—a chance to protect our region's natural treasures for generations to come.

🎨 Chillicothe's downtown gets vibrant new postcard-style mural. The Chamber of Commerce building at 45 East Main Street will feature a vinyl wrap mural designed to look like an old-fashioned postcard. This heat-applied installation is removable, graffiti-resistant, and matches the technique used for Ohio University Chillicothe's mural nearby. It will become the fourth public mural in downtown Chillicothe, joining others at former Chillicothe Telephone, Mulberry and Second streets, and North Paint Street. The Chillicothe Design Review Board approved the project Thursday during their monthly meeting overseeing historic district changes.
🎓 Ohio governor appoints Ava Wood as new student trustee. Governor Mike DeWine selected Wood on May 2, 2025, to serve on the Ohio University Board of Trustees. As a student trustee, Wood will represent student perspectives in the university's highest governing body. The board oversees major decisions affecting Ohio University's operations, policies, and future direction. Student trustees play a vital role in ensuring student voices are heard in institutional governance.
