Good morning, Vinton County. A solemn tribute to our nation's founding echoed through Chillicothe's Grandview Cemetery last week as five Revolutionary War heroes received long-overdue recognition. The dedication ceremony honored patriots who once stood alongside George Washington himself during the struggle for American independence—a powerful reminder of our region's deep historical connections to the birth of our nation.

Meanwhile, local authorities have their hands full on multiple fronts. Chillicothe police tackled eleven incidents in a single 24-hour period, from vehicle theft to domestic violence calls. In Nelsonville, financial integrity is under scrutiny as former city clerk Jessica Mount faces felony charges for allegedly pocketing $5,000 in city funds—funds that should have supported municipal services but instead disappeared into unauthorized pockets. Mount is scheduled for arraignment next month in what has become her second legal entanglement in recent years.

💰 Former Nelsonville clerk indicted for stealing $5,000 in city funds. Jessica Mount faces felony theft charges after allegedly pocketing cash payments that were never deposited into city accounts. The Ohio Auditor's Special Investigation Unit launched a probe in April 2023 following complaints about missing money. This isn't Mount's first legal trouble—she previously pled guilty to unauthorized use of a law enforcement database in March 2023. Mount is scheduled for arraignment in Athens County Court on July 9.
