Vinton County • April 21, 2025
Good morning, Vinton County. Behind every successful athlete lies years of dedication, and Julia Hancock's journey to the University of Rio Grande golf program showcases exactly that. The Martins Ferry standout's signing ceremony brought together family, coaches, and school officials to celebrate her impressive high school career that included earning a spot on the Eastern District Division Two first team. Her achievement stands as a bright spot amid concerning health news in our community.
Health officials have placed Central Elementary School on alert following a suspected measles case, with test results expected within days. This follows March's outbreak in Ashtabula County and serves as a sobering reminder of the virus's extreme contagiousness. Meanwhile, drivers face dual challenges on local roadways with ODOT tackling both a landslide repair on SR 328 and a complete closure on County Road 25 for bridge replacement—projects that will stretch through summer and potentially into fall.

🦠 Suspected measles case puts Ohio elementary school on alert. Health officials in Vinton County reported a possible case at Central Elementary School, with test results expected in 2-4 days. This follows 10 confirmed cases in Ashtabula County in March, none of which were vaccinated. The MMR vaccine is highly effective, with two doses providing 97% protection against this potentially serious disease.
🚧 Vinton County roads face two major ODOT construction projects. A landslide repair on State Route 328 has reduced traffic to one lane with temporary signals until July 1. Meanwhile, County Road 25 is completely closed for a bridge replacement, with detours in place via State Route 683 to Mt. Zion Road to Wolf Hill Road. This second project has a longer timeline, with completion expected by October 1. Both projects are weather-dependent, with ODOT providing updates through OHGO.com and social media.
