Good morning, Union County. Education decisions may soon be shifting back to local communities as U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon met with Ohio officials during her nationwide tour. The high-profile visit included a substantial announcement of $105 million in grants for Ohio charter schools, along with tours of educational institutions across Columbus — signaling the administration's push for increased local control and school choice options for families.

Half a century of service deserves celebration, and that's exactly what the Delaware Kiwanis Club marked with its 50th anniversary dinner earlier this month. Three original charter members witnessed the milestone festivities, which included the prestigious induction of Jack Hilborn into the Ohio Kiwanis Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Ohio's redistricting reform story continues to unfold, with Republicans positioned to approve congressional maps that critics say maintain partisan advantages despite voter-approved constitutional changes.

🗳️ Ohio's redistricting reform failed to stop partisan gerrymandering. Despite overwhelming voter approval in 2018, the constitutional amendment designed to prevent congressional gerrymandering has unraveled in practice. Republicans are poised to approve maps giving them 12 or 13 of Ohio's 15 House seats without Democratic support. Critics say the reform contained loopholes that allowed Republicans to maintain control, while increasing political polarization has diminished incentives for compromise. The system's penalty for one-sided maps—requiring redrawing after four years instead of ten—has ironically become an advantage for the majority party.
