Union County • September 30, 2025
Good morning, Union County. Autumn in Ohio just got a whole lot more a-maze-ing with the state's first-ever Corn Maze Trail featuring 46 seasonal attractions. Right in our backyard, The MAiZE at Little Darby Creek is celebrating its 24th season with a special design honoring Ohio State coach Ryan Day—perfect for Buckeye fans looking to get lost in fall fun just 30 minutes from Columbus.
Meanwhile, local drivers should prepare for significant detours as U.S. 42 closes between Watkins Rd. and SR 257 this weekend, part of ongoing construction projects that will impact travel through Fall 2025. On a more poignant note, the community says goodbye to Bill Johnson, a 95-year-old Korean War Marine and beloved educator whose 34-year teaching career was matched only by his lifelong commitment to service, leaving behind a legacy that extends far beyond the classroom.

🚧 Union County road closures will impact travel through Fall 2025. U.S. 42 will close between Watkins Rd. and SR 257 this weekend, requiring drivers to follow detours via U.S. 33, U.S. 36, and SR 257. The ongoing resurfacing project has already closed U.S. 42 southbound between SR 745 and U.S. 33, with northbound lanes remaining open. Additionally, SR 736 is closed between Taylor Rd. and Robinson Rd. for bridge replacement, with traffic being maintained via temporary signals in some areas. Motorists are urged to stay alert, reduce speed, and watch for stopped traffic in work zones.
🎖️ Beloved veteran educator Bill Johnson leaves behind a remarkable legacy. The 95-year-old Powell resident passed away peacefully on September 24 at The Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville. A Korean War Marine and one of "The Chosin Few," Johnson dedicated 34 years to teaching social studies at Hilliard City Schools before retiring in 1990. He remained committed to service throughout retirement, participating in the Marine Corps League Honor Guard and tutoring both children and adults.
