Good morning, Summit County. The thermometer's red line is climbing past 90 degrees, prompting Akron officials to extend cooling center hours at Summit Lake Community Center through Tuesday. This timely intervention offers residents a refreshing escape from the scorching heatwave that's settled over our region—a reminder that sometimes the best summer plans involve simply finding somewhere cool to catch your breath until Wednesday when regular hours are expected to resume.

Beyond the heat, our community faces sobering news as an innocent woman was caught in crossfire during a shootout involving two teenagers. Meanwhile, there's fascinating development in the medical world that hits closer to home than you might think—the infectious disease testing market continues thriving well beyond COVID's spotlight, with innovations in lab diagnostics showing promising growth particularly across Asia Pacific regions as healthcare infrastructure expands.
