🏢 Local makeover magic

Good morning, Summit County. The statistics are sobering: two fatal crashes in a single night and another life lost to gun violence. While Cleveland has seen homicides drop by 43% compared to last year, the recent shooting death of 28-year-old Cory Rico Tyree Bradley reminds us that behind every statistic is a human story. Meanwhile, Akron's community is processing the tragic loss of two drivers—36-year-old Samuel Williams III and a 70-year-old man—who died in separate accidents Friday evening, an occurrence police lieutenant Michael Murphy described as heartbreakingly rare.

Amid these difficult headlines, a creative transformation is taking shape. Akron's controversial Rubberworker logo is getting a community-driven makeover as part of the city's Bicentennial celebration. Mayor Shammas Malik's initiative invites professional designers to submit proposals by May 19, while simultaneously gathering input from residents through surveys and engaging local students in creating their own designs. The city's fresh visual identity will be unveiled at the Bicentennial's closing ceremony on December 6.
