Good morning, Summit County. Rock legends never truly fade away—they just wait for the perfect moment to return. Sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson are bringing their iconic band Heart to Akron's E.J. Thomas Hall in August 2025 for WONE's 40th anniversary celebration. The performance marks a triumphant return for Ann following her cancer treatment last summer, adding an emotional layer to what promises to be an unforgettable showcase of hits like "Magic Man" and "Barracuda."

Local leadership takes center stage this summer as Mayor Shammas Malik delivers his State of the City address outdoors at Lock 3 Park on June 3. The free event offers a rare opportunity to engage directly with Akron's vision for the future. Meanwhile, significant changes are reshaping the University of Akron, where Physics and Anthropology departments are being eliminated amid a broader $22 million budget restructuring effort designed to align with evolving student needs.

🎓 Akron University slashes Physics and Anthropology departments amid budget overhaul. The elimination is part of a broader revitalization effort requiring $22 million in budget improvements by fiscal year 2026. While the departments will disappear, select physics courses will continue within other science departments, and anthropology courses will be taught in Sociology and Health Sciences after a teach-out period. Approximately 20 faculty members across other departments accepted voluntary separation agreements as the university aligns its structure with "the changed needs and size of the student body."
