🚨 Safety success story

Stark County • March 11, 2025

Good morning, Stark County. Relief swept through our community Monday when 66-year-old Chris Nickolas was found safe after temporarily disappearing from his Canton home. The statewide search effort, prompted by concerns about his dementia diagnosis, thankfully ended with positive news just hours after the alert was issued—a reminder of how quickly our community can mobilize when one of our own is vulnerable.

Meanwhile, Stark County is taking aim at improving survival rates with a new life-saving initiative that puts CPR training directly into residents' hands. With kits now available through nine local organizations including the NAACP and YWCA, anyone can learn critical emergency response skills in just 30 minutes. This comes as Massillon school officials address concerns following a concerning bathroom altercation at Washington High School that reportedly involved a knife, with police now investigating the incident.

❤️ Stark County launches life-saving CPR initiative for all residents. The American Heart Association has extended its Nation of Lifesavers program throughout the county, providing CPR training kits to nine community organizations including the NAACP, YWCA, and local health departments. These kits contain everything needed to learn infant CPR, choking relief, and injury prevention in just 30 minutes without requiring certified instructors. The initiative specifically targets underserved communities, addressing disparities in CPR training access for Black and Hispanic neighborhoods and for women, who are 23% less likely to survive cardiac arrest than men. With over 350,000 Americans experiencing cardiac arrest outside hospitals annually, this program aims to double or triple survival rates through immediate bystander response.
