🎓 Bright futures fund

Stark County • March 10, 2025

Good morning, Stark County. Talk about investing in bright futures! The Timken Company just awarded life-changing scholarships to five local students, with Hoover High's Andrew Ziarko receiving an impressive $25,000 annually. Since 1958, Timken has poured over $27 million into helping 855 students pursue their dreams in fields from biomedical engineering to astrophysics—a remarkable commitment to our community's next generation of leaders.

On a different note, 78-year-old Jim Walker is channeling personal tragedy into purpose after losing his beloved rescue dog Lulu in a brutal attack. Meanwhile, Stark County's social calendar is bursting with opportunities to connect—from Swiss steak dinners to Canton Symphony's children's brass performances. Don't miss your chance to shape the future of our parks by participating in Stark Parks' 10-year comprehensive plan meetings. After all, our community thrives when we all contribute.

🐕 Dog attack survivor fights for tougher laws after losing beloved pet. Jim Walker, 78, has been attacked by aggressive dogs 15 times, including a brutal 2018 incident that killed his rescue dog Lulu. The Massillon man now advocates for a statewide database tracking dog attacks, breed-specific legislation, and clearer jurisdiction for law enforcement responding to incidents. Walker still suffers physical and emotional trauma from the attack, including PTSD that has left him fearful of all dogs. His advocacy has already helped restore Massillon's animal control officer position, which had been cut in 2012.
