Scioto County • July 29, 2025
Good morning, Scioto County. The crown of Miss Ohio now rests on Lawrence County soil for the first time in history, as Kitts Hill native Olivia Fosson prepares for her journey to the Miss America pageant. Before she steps onto the national stage in September, locals can join the celebration at two special events at StoneCreek Farms in Ironton on August 3 โ a Royal Bash for younger supporters and a Send Off Party where Fosson will showcase her competition wardrobe.
As summer temperatures soar to dangerous levels across our region, cooling stations have opened their doors throughout Portsmouth and New Boston, offering critical refuge from the heat. Meanwhile, a new statewide Blue Envelope program is making emergency situations safer for those with developmental disabilities. The distinctive blue envelopes and window decals alert first responders to potential communication challenges, with free packets now available through Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities.

๐ต New Blue Envelope program helps first responders assist those with disabilities. The statewide initiative provides special envelopes where drivers can store information about their developmental disabilities and medical conditions alongside identification documents. A blue window decal alerts police and emergency personnel that vehicle occupants may have communication or sensory challenges during interactions. The Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities is training local first responders on the program to improve emergency interactions. Free Blue Envelope packets are now available at the LCDD administrative office in Coal Grove.
