Scioto County • July 30, 2025
Good morning, Scioto County. The crisp autumn air signals not just the changing seasons but the return of Friday night lights, as defending Division 5 state champions Ironton prepare for an ambitious campaign. The Fighting Tigers' schedule crosses four state lines, showcasing our region's football prowess from Kentucky to New York, all while rebuilding around standout running backs Williams and Carmon after last year's championship 15-1 run.
While the community prepares for gridiron battles, quieter transitions mark our days. The passing of Ronald Wayne Grooms at 64 reminds us of the passion for life's simple pleasures β from antique cars to arrowhead hunting β that defines our region's character. Meanwhile, the civic machinery of democracy hums along as candidates file for township trustees, council members, and school board positions ahead of the August 6 deadline, laying groundwork for November's general election.
