Fresh produce and handcrafted goods return this Friday as the Ironton Farmers Market launches its 13th season, running through October with loyal vendors and newcomers alike. Meanwhile, a $152 million transformation is coming to our riverfront parks, with four Lawrence County locations set for major upgrades including outdoor dining for 600 in Ironton and new concrete along the former Lock and Dam 27. 🌽 Ironton Farmers Market returns for its 13th season this Friday. Market manager Sam Heighton credits the loyal vendors for the market's continued success, with most regulars returning alongside several new produce and craft sellers. Operating every Friday and Saturday through October from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the market will temporarily relocate in August to accommodate the Thunder on the River bike rally. Special events include Ironton in Bloom's Mother's Day flower sale and new "Second Saturday Celebration" vendor days starting May 10.
🍦 Ironton's long-awaited Dairy Queen finally breaks ground despite downpour. Local owner Corby Leach, an Ironton High School graduate, plans to open the restaurant in October after years of anticipation. The new location will feature a patio and fire pit, envisioned as a community gathering spot for celebrations like athletic victories. Leach, who owns six other Dairy Queen franchises, expressed excitement about bringing "Blizzard to Tiger Town" as construction equipment stands ready at the Eighth Street site. The international chain, founded in 1940, offers ice cream treats and hot food menu items across its 6,800 worldwide locations.
🏞️ Ohio riverfront parks are getting a $152 million makeover. Four parks in Lawrence County will see major improvements starting this summer as part of Governor DeWine's Appalachian Community Grant Program. The former Lock and Dam 27 near Proctorville will receive $5 million in upgrades including a shelter house, new concrete along the river, and a building with a kitchen—but no RV park after local opposition. Similar refreshes are planned for South Point and Burlington parks, while Ironton will see more extensive development including outdoor dining for 600 people. All projects must be completed by October 2026.
