Good morning, Scioto County. Infrastructure realities are hitting home in South Point, where residents will soon see their monthly sewer bills jump by $10. While nobody celebrates higher utility costs, the $31.50 rate remains lower than neighboring communities and addresses critical sewage issues requiring millions in upgrades after decades of deferred maintenance. Sometimes the pipes beneath our feet demand attention just as urgently as the roads we drive on.

Meanwhile, a discovery on an Ironton hillside has authorities carefully examining bone fragments found above the old State Route 75 Tunnel, working to determine their origin and significance. On the diamond, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers are making their mark at Myrtle Beach's Ripken Experience tournament, improving to an impressive 13-3 season record after Tuesday's commanding victories over James Monroe and Loris, with Ava Bihl's powerful offensive performance leading the charge.

💰 South Point residents face $10 monthly sewer rate increase. The village council voted to raise rates from $21.50 to $31.50 to fund urgent infrastructure improvements. Mayor Jeff Gaskin explained that aging systems require $4-5 million in upgrades over five years, with sewage issues becoming critical in some areas. While residents packed the special meeting to voice concerns, most understood the necessity, acknowledging their rates were lower than surrounding communities. Officials emphasized this decision came after months of consideration and may not be the last increase needed to address decades of neglect.
