Ross County • August 29, 2025
Good morning, Ross County. September 11, 2001 forever changed our nation, and this Monday, our community will honor that solemn anniversary with the Chillicothe VA's third annual memorial 5K. Beginning with an 8:46am ceremony—the exact moment the first plane struck—participants will gather to remember those lost while connecting with fellow community members. The run starts at 9:03am, with pre-registration encouraged for what Executive Director Ken Mortimer calls "a powerful way to honor those we lost."
Local pride takes center stage as Chillicothe celebrates homegrown talent Allison Payton, who now has her very own day. The Miss Ohio Teen and Zane Trace senior received a spectacular courthouse send-off complete with cheerleading performances as she prepares for the Miss America's Teen pageant in Orlando. Meanwhile, residents should note that mosquito spraying is scheduled for September 3 after West Nile Virus was detected in county traps—a timely reminder to eliminate standing water and keep the bug spray handy.

🦟 West Nile Virus detected in Ross County mosquitoes, spraying scheduled. The Ross County Health District will conduct mosquito spraying on September 3 in several townships and parts of Chillicothe after traps tested positive for the virus. Officials will use Duet, an EPA-approved adulticide that's safe when used correctly. Residents can opt out by contacting the health district before 4:30pm on spraying day. Health officials remind residents that while 80% of people infected with West Nile Virus don't develop symptoms, everyone should take precautions by eliminating standing water and using insect repellent.
