Good morning, Ross County. Behind every skilled trade lies a lifetime of passion, as evidenced by Phillip Alan Hicks' 64 years of craftsmanship. The marble installer and car detailer, who recently passed away, leaves behind not just a grieving wife of 52 years, but a legacy built on hot rods, fishing trips, and those special Jack in the Box outings that turned ordinary moments into cherished memories.
In other local developments, the contrast between finding shelter and building business success plays out across our community. While authorities recently addressed an unauthorized camp at Goldie Gunlock Park, Rost Coffee Company celebrates receiving an $18,750 grant that will allow this downtown anchor to expand operations. Owner Trent Fannin's business has become such a community fixture since 2016 that they've literally outgrown their walls—a testament to how small businesses continue shaping our historic district's revival.

🛠️ A craftsman's life of love and labor ends at 64. Phillip Alan Hicks, skilled marble installer and car detailer, passed away on July 6, 2025, leaving behind his wife Gina of 52 years. His passions included fishing, hot rods, and special outings to Jack in the Box followed by trips to South Mountain in Phoenix. Phillip is survived by his wife, a half-brother, and several nieces, nephews and friends, while being preceded in death by his mother, father, and two brothers.
🏕️ Homeless man evicted from unauthorized camp in city park. Officer Joseph Gay discovered Dale Mootispaw's makeshift camp in Goldie Gunlock Park in Chillicothe, Ohio following public complaints. Mootispaw was given 48 hours to dismantle his camp and vacate or face criminal trespassing charges. Police officially barred him from accessing any Chillicothe city park properties. The investigation remains open as authorities continue to monitor the area for further unauthorized activity.
☕ Small town coffee shop lands $18,750 grant to expand. Rost Coffee Company in Chillicothe will use the funding from Fluor-BWXT and JEDISO to hire additional staff and grow their operations. Owner Trent Fannin says the business has outgrown its current location due to community requests for catering and rental space. Established in 2016, Rost Coffee has become an anchor of Chillicothe's Historic Downtown District. The grant is part of FBP's commitment to creating and retaining jobs for a sustainable economy in the four-county region.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
