Ross County • July 16, 2025
Good morning, Ross County. Roadways in Jackson County are about to get a makeover as ODOT prepares for two significant projects that will temporarily reshape local commutes. The intersection improvement at U.S. 35 and Dixon Run Road, alongside a culvert replacement on S.R. 93, will require detours that motorists should note in their travel plans. The public has until August 9, 2025, to weigh in on these infrastructure updates that aim to enhance regional transportation safety.
Meanwhile, a bicycle chase through Chillicothe streets ended with more than just road rash when Ryan Mitchell took a tumble after allegedly wielding a knife near a Speedway gas station. On a more heartwarming note, four-legged friends throughout the county are getting a second chance thanks to the Ohio Pets Grant, which is funding increased spaying services at the Ross County Humane Society. Community members meeting income guidelines can also benefit from this initiative aimed at reducing shelter populations.

π§ ODOT seeks public input on two Jackson County highway projects. The Ohio Department of Transportation is planning an intersection improvement at U.S. 35 and Dixon Run Road, plus a culvert replacement on S.R. 93. Both projects will require road closures with detours established for affected motorists. No homes or businesses will be removed, though the S.R. 93 project requires 0.258 acres of permanent right-of-way. Public comments should be submitted to ODOT by August 9, 2025.
πͺ Chillicothe man arrested after knife-wielding bicycle chase ends with fall. Ryan Mitchell was taken into custody Friday morning following a disturbance near a Speedway gas station. After witnesses reported a fight involving a knife, Officer Jonathan Davis spotted Mitchell on a bicycle and attempted to stop him, leading to a brief pursuit. The suspect crashed his bike in an alley, discarded a plastic baggie during arrest, and was found with suspected narcotics and a switchblade knife. Mitchell, who suffered a broken collarbone in the fall, was charged with obstructing official business while the alleged victim couldn't be located for questioning.
πΎ Ohio grant gives Ross County dogs a second chance. The Ross County Humane Society and Dog Warden received funding through the Ohio Pets Grant to increase spaying services for shelter dogs. The grant will also help community members who meet income guidelines and are encountered by the dog warden. This initiative aims to reduce unwanted litters ending up in shelters. Ohioans can support similar efforts by selecting the Ohio Pet Plate when renewing their vehicle registration, directing funds back to shelters statewide.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.
