Good morning, Preble County. Shopping for a cause just got a stylish upgrade with the grand opening of Dayton Humane & Co. in Centerville. This new upscale resale boutique transforms your donated clothing, furniture, and home décor into life-saving resources for animals in need—proving that one person's gently-used treasures can become another creature's second chance at life. The Wednesday-through-Sunday operation offers both bargain hunters and animal lovers a win-win opportunity to make a difference.

While our four-legged friends gain new champions, affordable housing initiatives face uncertainty as state budget negotiations threaten to eliminate crucial funding mechanisms. On a brighter note, the Eaton Library is rolling out a summer lineup that promises creative enrichment for residents of all ages—from open paint sessions to internet basics classes. Those who register for the Summer Reading Challenge by June 7 might even find themselves enjoying Kings Island, courtesy of a special raffle drawing.

🏠 Ohio's affordable housing funds face elimination in state budget bill. The legislation would remove the requirement for counties to contribute 50% of recorder fees to the Ohio Housing Trust Fund, threatening vital financing for low-income housing projects. Local nonprofit YS Home, Inc. has received $2.5 million from the fund for rural rental housing, including nearly $1.5 million for The Cascades development currently under construction. Executive Director Emily Seibel testified against the provision, noting smaller counties like Greene benefit more from the pooled resources than they contribute. This state-level threat comes amid federal housing budget cuts, with President Trump proposing a 43% reduction to HUD rental assistance programs.
