Good morning, Preble County. From the rich soil of Oklahoma to the hallowed grounds of Dayton National Cemetery, Preble County students are making their mark. National Trail's Tayten Reynolds has claimed first place at the National Soils Contest, leading his FFA Chapter to an impressive sixth-place finish despite challenging weather conditions that dumped six inches of rain during their competitive journey. It's a testament to preparation and perseverance that would make any community proud.
As we approach Memorial Day weekend, hundreds of Scouts will transform Dayton National Cemetery into a sea of red, white, and blue as they place flags on veterans' graves in a powerful half-hour tradition. Meanwhile, academic excellence continues at home where Quinn Jorgensen and Elizabeth Parks have been named co-valedictorians at Arcanum High School, with bright futures ahead in mechanical engineering and psychology, respectively. 🌱 Ohio student dominates National Soils Contest with first-place finish. Tayten Reynolds led the National Trail MVCTC FFA Chapter to sixth place at the National Land and Range Judging Contest in El Reno, Oklahoma. The four-member team qualified after placing third in Ohio's state competition. Despite challenging conditions, including six inches of rainfall during their trip, the team prepared diligently with three days of practice and guidance from a former Oklahoma agricultural instructor. Beyond competing, the students explored Oklahoma State University, visited the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, and toured the Oklahoma City Stockyards.
🇺🇸 Scouts honor fallen heroes in a sea of American flags. Hundreds of Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Eagle Scouts will gather at Dayton National Cemetery this Memorial Day weekend to place flags on thousands of veterans' graves. The decades-long tradition transforms the cemetery's rolling hills of white tombstones into a patriotic tapestry of red, white, and blue in just half an hour. For participants like Emma Deedon, who comes from a military family, the event offers a meaningful way to show respect for those who served. As one Scout's father reminded his tired daughter, "A little sweat and exhaustion doesn't equal what they put up for our country."
🎓 Two top students claim valedictorian honors at Arcanum High School. Quinn Jorgensen and Elizabeth Parks have been named co-valedictorians for the 2025 graduating class at Arcanum High School. Jorgensen, son of Paul and Netta Jorgensen, plans to pursue Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Parks, daughter of David and Morgan Parks, will attend Wright State University to study Psychology. Both students have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement throughout their high school careers.
