🏠 Shelter strong

Preble County • March 27, 2025

Good morning, Preble County. The safety net for our region's most vulnerable just got stronger. As homelessness reaches near-record levels across Montgomery County, Homefull is stepping in to maintain critical services at the Gettysburg Gateway for Men shelter, ensuring that the 229 men who rely on its beds nightly won't face disruption when the transition happens July 1. This collaborative effort demonstrates how communities can respond when essential services face challenges.

Meanwhile, flashing lights and caution tape surrounded Arena Sports Bar in Trotwood early Wednesday as police investigated reports of gunfire just after midnight. In transportation news that affects daily commutes, prepare for detours if Interstate 75 is part of your regular route—the Needmore Road ramp to I-75 South closes March 24 for two months of repairs. Drivers should plan to use the Stanley Avenue ramp instead during this extended closure.

🏠 Homefull steps in to save Dayton men's emergency shelter. Montgomery County commissioners approved Homefull, Inc. to take over operations at the Gettysburg Gateway for Men by July 1, replacing St. Vincent de Paul who cited financial challenges. The shelter serves an average of 229 men nightly and will continue providing critical services including meals and facility maintenance. This transition comes as homelessness in Montgomery County reached near-record levels, with 687 people counted as homeless in January 2024. County officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring uninterrupted services throughout the transition process.
