Good morning, Powell. The power of positive influence ripples through our community this week, with Mrs. Merendo's classroom transformation standing as a testament to how one person's approach can shape young lives. At Navin Elementary, she's created more than just a learning space—it's a sanctuary where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and grow both emotionally and academically. Principal Van Schoyck's praise highlights what many parents already know: great teachers change lives far beyond lesson plans.
Meanwhile, as we bid farewell to Bill Wood after his remarkable 89-year journey, Ohio State researchers are launching a groundbreaking $20 million study to address youth mental health challenges. The SOAR Study brings cutting-edge science directly to Ohio communities through mobile MRI units and online surveys, aiming to transform how we understand and treat emotional distress among young people—potentially creating ripple effects that will benefit generations to come.

🕊️ Bill Wood's 89-year journey ended peacefully at Memorial Hospital. The devoted husband, father, and grandfather leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Linda, along with daughters Jennifer and Amanda, grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. After retiring from GE Plastics in 1991, Bill and Linda enjoyed winters in Florida and traveled extensively across America before settling in Plain City to be near family. A passionate Ohio State and West Virginia football fan, Bill was remembered for his kind heart, great sense of humor, and unconditional love for his family. Visitation and services will be held Saturday, May 17th at Big Darby Baptist Church.
