The ecological hub has already welcomed more than 1,000 students through spring programming, with university interns and teen counselors now preparing to guide the next generation of nature enthusiasts. Meanwhile, the center's greenhouse has already produced an impressive 46 pounds of fresh produce for local food assistance, exemplifying education and community service growing side by side.
Excellence continues to flourish elsewhere in our community too. Fort Frye FFA members have harvested quite the collection of honors at the Ohio State Convention, with nine students receiving the prestigious State FFA Degree—an achievement reserved for just the top 2% of members statewide. And for our retired public employees, a special gathering awaits on May 20 at Golden Corral, featuring insights from Ellen Heinz, President & CEO of Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development.

👵 Retired public employees to gather for lunch with special guest speaker. The local chapter of the Public Employee Retirees, Inc. (PERI) will meet on May 20, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Golden Corral in Ontario, Ohio. Ellen Heinz, President & CEO of the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development, will be the featured guest speaker at the event. Attendees will be responsible for the cost of their lunch. University students have been hired as camp interns, while students entering eighth grade through graduation will serve as counselors in training. The ecological center has wrapped up spring programming after hosting over 1,000 visiting students, and the farm is buzzing with activity as hay fields await cutting and the greenhouse has already yielded 46 pounds of produce for local food assistance. For safety during camp season, self-guided visits are now limited to Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
👨🌾 Fort Frye FFA students shine bright at Ohio State Convention. Nine chapter members received the prestigious State FFA Degree, awarded to only the top 2% of members statewide. Five students were recognized as proficiency finalists, with Julia Silvus and Ty Worthington advancing to national competition. The chapter also earned a Gold-Rated Chapter Award and three officers received Gold Rated Officer Books for their exceptional work. The two-day event culminated with Julia Silvus retiring from her role as Ohio FFA State Vice President At Large.
