Good morning, Portage County. Behind the glittering facades of Cleveland's restaurant scene, a troubling legal drama unfolds as TownHall owner Bobby George faces serious charges including attempted strangulation. The prominent businessman, who controls several Cleveland establishments, has pleaded not guilty after a woman reported multiple violent incidents spanning months. His court appearance is scheduled for October 31, with the case drawing significant attention across Northeast Ohio.

On a much lighter note, laughter will soon fill Beachwood's Miller Family Auditorium as Israeli-American comedian Joel Chasnoff brings his unique brand of humor to Mandel JDS's "Night of Laughter" on November 4. The former IDF soldier and award-winning author will share stories about Jewish life during the $36-per-ticket event. Meanwhile, in Shaker Heights, conversations about educational equity continue as diversity officer Lawrence Burnley raises concerns about significant academic achievement gaps between student populations.

The 44-year-old TownHall owner, who controls several prominent Cleveland businesses, faces a reduced charge after initially being accused of attempted murder, kidnapping, and rape. According to court documents, a woman reported multiple violent incidents between November 2023 and July 2024, including George allegedly strangling her, slamming her head, and forcing a towel down her throat. George, who pleaded not guilty in August and posted a $200,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Cuyahoga County Court on October 31.

๐Ÿซ Shaker Heights diversity officer claims racial discrimination after questioning test scores. Lawrence Burnley says he was sidelined by the superintendent after publicly highlighting stark academic gaps between Black and white students in the district. Despite Shaker's reputation for progressive education and commitment to equity, Burnley alleges his role became "symbolic" after he presented data showing less than 20% of Black fifth-graders were proficient in math compared to around 50% of all students. Meanwhile, a separate study of Cleveland police found no evidence of racial bias in traffic stops, despite Black drivers accounting for 63% of stops in a city that's roughly half Black.
