🍂 Autumn soul maintenance

Good morning, Portage County. Just as your car's dashboard light warns you when it's time for maintenance, our souls have similar indicators when we're running on empty. Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk draws this compelling parallel, reminding us that spiritual renewal isn't about guilt, but compassion—creating deliberate pauses in our fast-paced lives to avoid "stalling out" when our inner resources are depleted.

Autumn's golden light has transformed our landscape into poetry in motion, with Holly Christensen finding her seasonal soundtrack in James Whitcomb Riley's verses as she enjoys her newly fenced yard "rooms." For animal lovers, mark your calendars for November 15th when the Humane Society celebrates its shelter anniversary with a luminous open house featuring waived adoption fees for older pets, refreshments, and the chance to purchase luminarias that will light up the grounds—just one of several heartwarming community events on the horizon.

🔄 Your soul needs maintenance just like your car does. Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk compares the need for spiritual renewal to getting an oil change – both require regular attention to prevent breakdown. In our fast-paced world, people often run on "spiritual fumes," ignoring warning signs that their inner well-being needs attention. A spiritual oil change isn't about guilt, but about compassion, intentionally resisting cynicism, and taking time to pause. By creating space between stimulus and response, we can navigate life more deliberately and avoid "stalling out" when our souls are depleted.

🍁 Autumn's golden light transforms Akron into a poetic landscape. Holly Christensen celebrates the season with James Whitcomb Riley's verses, "When the Frost Is on the Punkin," which serve as her personal fall soundtrack. Her newly fenced yard creates outdoor "rooms" where she enjoys the extended mild weather that climate change has brought to October. Though her teenage son has outgrown his Halloween decoration enthusiasm, the author savors autumn's poignant beauty while acknowledging it heralds winter's temporary death of gardens and greenery.
