Portage County • September 3, 2025
Good morning, Portage County. Fall festivities are just around the corner with Hudson's Fall Harvest Fest on September 14 promising to transform Case-Barlow Farm into a time machine of old-fashioned delights. While hayrides and historical demonstrations await those seeking wholesome weekend fun, the 27th annual celebration adds new attractions like a garden tractor pull and hay mountain alongside perennial favorites that have kept families returning for nearly three decades.
Amid the seasonal celebrations, our community faces sobering news as a 69-year-old scooter rider lost his life following a collision with an SUV in neighboring Geauga County. In another troubling development, a Parma Fire Captain remains employed despite being found guilty of operating a city vehicle with a blood alcohol level nearly triple the legal limit – a stark reminder of the responsibilities that come with public service positions.

🛵 Tragic collision claims life of 69-year-old scooter rider. Paul Buttari Sr. died after his Honda Helix motor scooter was struck by an SUV at an intersection in Geauga County, Ohio. The crash occurred Monday when a 19-year-old driver in a Ford Escape pulled onto State Route 87 from Elm Road, hitting Buttari's westbound scooter. Despite being transported to hospital and later airlifted to Cleveland, Buttari succumbed to his injuries. Troopers confirmed alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which closed the highway for approximately an hour.
