Good morning, Portage County. Northeast Ohio's transformation into a tech and innovation hub continues as CSA Group plans a massive 294,000-square-foot facility at Brecksville's Valor Acres. The Toronto-based testing firm's expansion represents another significant investment in our region's growing reputation as a business destination, though planning commissioners have raised concerns about building design elements that still need resolution before the project moves forward.
In transportation news, brace yourselves for significant detours starting July 11 as ODOT begins major closures on Akron's Kenmore Leg and I-277 for resurfacing and bridge repairs. Meanwhile, Sherwin-Williams is putting the finishing touches on its impressive Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville, with about 900 employees scheduled to relocate this fall as part of the paint giant's strategic regional consolidation that includes a new downtown Cleveland headquarters tower.

🏢 Global testing firm plans major expansion in Ohio suburb. CSA Group is eyeing a 294,000-square-foot office and laboratory facility on a 20-acre site at Valor Acres in Brecksville. The Brecksville Planning Commission raised concerns about the building's elevation, driveway placement through a median strip, and lack of pedestrian paths. DiGeronimo Development, the project developer, indicated limited flexibility on these issues, citing financial constraints regarding site elevation changes. The commission has requested plan revisions before making a final decision on the Toronto-based company's proposed facility.
🚧 Major road closures hit Akron's Kenmore Leg and I-277. The Ohio Department of Transportation announced multiple closures starting July 11 for resurfacing and bridge repairs. Eastbound I-277 between I-76/Kenmore Leg and I-77 will be closed through late July, while southbound I-76/Kenmore Leg between I-76 and I-277 will be closed until mid-August. Detours will redirect drivers through alternative routes including I-76 East and I-77 South. Several ramps will also be affected, including those from State Street, Manchester Road, and South Main Street.
🎨 Sherwin-Williams will unveil its massive new R&D center this fall. About 900 employees will relocate to the Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville between September 22 and December 19, coming primarily from facilities in Downtown Cleveland and Warrensville Heights. Both the Breen Technology Center and Warrensville Technical Center will close after being sold last year to developers with plans for redevelopment. The move is part of Sherwin-Williams' larger relocation strategy, which includes a new headquarters tower in downtown Cleveland opening later this year.
