🍬 Toffee economics

Good morning, Portage County. Behind the counter of a small shop in Cleveland's Collinwood neighborhood, an economics dropout is crafting something sweeter than financial forecasts. Jeff Morsfield traded textbooks for toffee recipes in 2019, building his candy-making passion into Jeff's Candy Shop, where an antique brass rolling machine transforms simple ingredients into artisanal confections. His journey from farmers markets to brick-and-mortar storefront represents the kind of entrepreneurial spirit that makes our region so vibrant.

On a more somber note, the Akron community is grappling with tragedy after a 26-year-old man lost his life in an early Sunday morning shooting at a Grant Street BP station. Meanwhile, food enthusiasts have until July 14 to nominate their favorite hidden culinary gems in Cleveland Heights and University Heights for Cleveland.com's "Best of Cleveland" dining guide, which will spotlight the 25 most beloved local establishments.

🍬 Young entrepreneur turns sweet tooth into thriving candy business. Jeff Morsfield abandoned economics studies to follow his passion for making candy, starting with his mother's toffee recipe in 2019. His handcrafted treats include toffee bars, candied nuts, and hard candies made on an antique brass rolling machine he found on eBay.
