Good morning, Portage County. The sweet nostalgia of summer just got sweeter with East Coast Custard's triumphant return in Lyndhurst. After 34 years, this beloved institution has emerged from renovation with expanded facilities while preserving the authentic recipe that made it a local treasure—proof that sometimes the best improvements don't change what matters most. Owner Ivan Platt's commitment to "old-fashioned" custard served at the precise 18-20 degrees shows that perfection doesn't need reinvention, just a fresh coat of paint and perhaps a convenient drive-through window.

While custard cools things down, the Cleveland skies will heat up this Labor Day weekend as the Cleveland National Air Show returns with the thunderous roar of F-16 fighters reaching 500 mph. Closer to home, Ravenna city and township are charting their futures together through comprehensive planning initiatives that balance growth with preservation of local character—a delicate dance between progress and tradition that mirrors East Coast Custard's successful approach.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

Brewing Locally Image

🍦 Historic custard shop reopens with major glow-up after 34 years. East Coast Custard in Lyndhurst unveiled its expanded facility featuring a new patio, additional parking, and a popular drive-through window after owner Ivan Platt purchased the property he had previously rented. Despite the renovations, Platt maintained the original custard-making process and recipe, which includes a small amount of egg yolk and at least 10% cream served at the optimal 18-20 degrees. The location operates under Quality Kosher Supervision of Canton to accommodate the surrounding Orthodox community. With five locations across Ohio, Platt's commitment to "old-fashioned" custard continues to thrive even with its fresh new look.
