🚓 Traffic stop troubles

Good morning, Pike County. Downtown Chillicothe became the stage for an unfortunate confrontation Tuesday when a reportedly intoxicated man allegedly struck Officer Shane Daubenmire during what began as a routine traffic stop. The incident, which unfolded at the intersection of East Main and North Mulberry streets, resulted in multiple charges for Kevin Self, including assault on a peace officer—a sobering reminder of the unpredictable challenges faced by local law enforcement.

On a more positive note, Scioto Township residents can breathe a little easier with trustees unanimously approving a 30% property tax reduction for 2026, helping offset state-mandated revaluations. And while financial matters were being settled in one part of the county, Yoctangee Park transformed into a celebration of women's equality, with the League of Women Voters hosting interactive stations that combined education with cookie decorating and storytelling—blending civic engagement with community fun.

📊 Scioto Township slashes property tax rates by 30% for 2026. The unanimous decision by trustees aims to offset the impact of a state-mandated property revaluation in Ross County that would otherwise increase residents' tax bills. While township taxes represent just a portion of overall property taxes, officials hope the reduction will help mitigate next year's tax increase for homeowners. This move mirrors similar actions taken by other Ross County townships, including Union Township which approved an identical measure the previous day.

🗳️ Women's equality champions gather for educational celebration in Ohio park. Activities included recording personal stories, decorating cookies, testing knowledge of famous women, and learning about healthcare initiatives.
