Good morning, Pike County. A solemn shadow fell over our community this weekend as 35-year-old Timothy Williams lost his life when his paraglider plummeted from the sky near the Ohio River. The Georgia native's tragic accident near Earl Thomas Conway Park has drawn multiple emergency agencies to the scene as investigators work to determine what went wrong during what should have been a peaceful Sunday flight.

From somber present-day news to remarkable past and future stories: Pleasant Valley Wildlife Area's new historical marker now honors its former life as Camp Sherman, where 120,000 WWI soldiers once trained before the land transformed into today's wildlife haven. Meanwhile, rural medicine celebrates a hometown hero as Dr. Hafeez Hassan joins the elite "30 in Their 30s" list in interventional cardiology, proving that world-class heart care doesn't require a big-city address—just a dedicated physician performing 500+ life-saving procedures annually.

🪖 Historic Ohio wildlife area reveals its military past. A new historical marker at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Area honors Camp Sherman, which trained 120,000 soldiers for World War I near Chillicothe. The camp, built in 1917 with over 1,000 buildings, was dismantled in 1921 after serving as a decommissioning center for returning troops. Now managed by ODNR Division of Wildlife, the 1,469-acre area has transformed from a military training ground to a biodiverse hotspot where visitors can hunt, hike, and observe wildlife including deer, rabbits, and bald eagles.
