Good morning, Pike County. As the nation approaches another September 11th anniversary, the Chillicothe VA Medical Center prepares to honor fallen heroes with their third annual memorial 5K. Veterans, staff, and community members will gather Thursday to remember lives lost during the 2001 attacks, with an opening ceremony featuring poignant remarks from a Navy Veteran who experienced that fateful day in New York City firsthand. The event welcomes participants of all abilities to traverse the medical center's scenic groundsβa fitting tribute to both tragedy and resilience.
On a somber note, the local aviation community mourns the loss of Timothy Williams, a 35-year-old paraglider from Georgia who tragically crashed near the Ohio River on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, in neighboring Scioto County, newly appointed Commissioner Merit Smith has hit the ground running, discovering more economic development initiatives than initially expected as he settles into his role following Cathy Coleman's passing.
