Good morning, Pike County. The air is thick with competition as nine local high school marching bands prepare to face off at the 17th Annual Battle of the Bands next week. Chillicothe High School enters as the two-time defending champion, while Unioto's musicians are fine-tuning their performances to reclaim their former glory after consecutive runner-up finishes. The September 5th showdown at Pickaway-Ross gives career center students a unique opportunity to vote for their hometown heroes while welcoming community members to witness the musical spectacle.

In county leadership news, Merit Smith has completed his first month as Scioto County Commissioner after being appointed to fill the seat left vacant by Cathy Coleman's passing. As Smith familiarizes himself with governmental responsibilities, the Chillicothe VA Medical Center looks ahead to next year's Third Annual 9/11 Memorial 5K—a poignant event that will unite veterans, staff, and community members to honor those lost in the 2001 attacks.
