Pike County • July 29, 2025
Good morning, Pike County. The healthcare community mourns the loss of one of its own this week as Kathy Sturgell, a dedicated nurse who spent 27 years caring for others at National Churches Residences, has passed away at 70. Her decades of service represent the quiet heroism of healthcare workers who form the backbone of our community's wellbeing—leaving behind not just family members but countless lives touched through her career of compassion.
Meanwhile, Piketon is quite literally securing its future drop by drop. The Village Council's $250,000 land purchase near the high school marks a significant investment in solving the town's water reliability issues. With plans for two new wells connecting to an upcoming treatment facility, plus rehabilitation of existing infrastructure, Mayor Billy Spencer is addressing both immediate concerns and long-term stability for a resource we often take for granted until problems arise.
