Good morning, Pike County. The statistics are sobering: Ohio ranks fourth among film-producing states, a fact local filmmaker Daniel Griesheimer hopes to leverage with his proposal for a Chillicothe film commission. Presented at Monday's council meeting, the initiative aims to attract productions to our picturesque downtown that Griesheimer describes as "like a Hallmark movie"β€”potentially bringing hundreds of thousands in economic benefits without raising taxes.

Meanwhile, Chillicothe police had their hands full with a particularly challenging day of investigations, including a serious rape case at Adena Medical Center. As officers worked through multiple incidents from burglary to drug possession, ODOT announced plans to address the persistent flooding on State Route 41β€”though residents should prepare for a 20-mile detour when construction begins in 2026. The project will require acquiring small portions of residential property to implement drainage improvements.

Multiple traffic violations were issued, particularly for drivers obstructing intersections around Bridge and Pawnee Street. Additional incidents included a drug possession case, theft at Walmart, domestic disputes, and several disorderly conduct calls throughout the city.

🎬 Chillicothe filmmaker pushes to establish local film commission. Daniel Griesheimer's proposal, which received its first reading at Monday's council meeting, aims to boost the arts community and create local jobs without raising taxes. As Ohio ranks fourth among film-producing states, the commission would leverage existing tax incentives to attract productions that can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars locally. Griesheimer notes that Chillicothe's picturesque downtown makes it "like a Hallmark movie," with several independent films already shot in the area, including the recent domestic abuse awareness film "Without Her."

🚧 Ohio plans to fix flooding on State Route 41. ODOT's drainage improvement project will address persistent flooding issues between Free Lane and Cliff Run Road in Ross County's Paint Township. The construction will require 0.419 acres of permanent right-of-way from residential lawns and a wooded lot, plus 0.087 acres of temporary right-of-way. During construction, the road will close completely with a 20-mile detour using US 50, SR 753, and SR 28. Public comments are being accepted until July 10, 2025, with project construction expected to begin in July 2026.
