Good morning, Pickaway County. A scientific powerhouse has been quietly shaping global research from Columbus for over a century. Chemical Abstracts Service, which relocated to Ohio State University in 1909, revolutionized how scientists access information—from processing 10,000 reports monthly in the 1960s to releasing nearly half a million registry numbers under open license in 2022. This hidden gem represents Ohio's lasting contribution to worldwide scientific advancement.

In more immediate news, the community mourns Columbus resident Larry Littlejohn, who tragically lost his life Thursday when his semitruck struck a cement pillar on a New York highway. Meanwhile, summer festivities are approaching with CBUS Soul® Fest expanding to two music-filled days at Bicentennial Park. Mark your calendars for August 15-16 to enjoy headliners Eric Benét, Raheem Devaughn, and cuisine from twelve diverse food trucks along the Scioto Mile.

🧪 Columbus's Chemical Abstracts Service has shaped global science since 1909. Originally founded at the University of Illinois, this scientific information powerhouse relocated to Ohio State University where it's remained for over a century. By 1965, CAS had installed its first computer center and was processing over 10,000 scientific reports monthly. The organization revolutionized research access with its 1995 SciFinder software, allowing scientists to search databases from personal computers. In 2022, CAS further expanded scientific accessibility by releasing nearly 500,000 registry numbers under an open license for educational and regulatory purposes.
