Good morning, Pickaway County. Downtown Columbus is experiencing a residential renaissance unlike anything seen in three decades. Over 8,000 new apartment units have sprouted in the central core since 2020, catapulting the capital city to 10th place nationally for downtown construction. This urban revival has pushed the downtown population to 12,500 residents, with many drawn to the walkable lifestyle and vibrant community atmosphere that defines city center living.

Beyond local development news, cultural offerings and sobering headlines round out today's update. Film enthusiasts can catch the premiere of "July 7: Who Killed the President?" at AMC Easton tomorrow, exploring Haiti's 2021 presidential assassination through a compelling narrative. Meanwhile, a heartbreaking case unfolds as 32-year-old Ashley Fagan faces murder charges following the tragic death of her 6-year-old daughter Eva Bretz, with arraignment scheduled for May 16 in Franklin County Court.

Columbus now ranks 10th among major metro areas for downtown residential construction, with Washington DC leading the pack. The influx has pushed Downtown's population to 12,500 residents, though the report notes a nationwide trend toward more construction outside immediate downtown cores. Despite this shift, downtown living remains attractive for its walkability and access to dining, entertainment, and community events.
