🍦 Custard consolation

Pickaway County • April 4, 2025

Good morning, Pickaway County. April is shaping up to be a month of dramatic contrasts around Circleville. While local police were tackling over 20 incidents in a single dayβ€”from false alarms and domestic disputes to vehicle accidents and suspicious activity reportsβ€”a sweeter development was taking shape across town. Whit's Frozen Custard is preparing to open its creamy doors at 910 Stoutsville Pike, bringing their egg-rich, traditional frozen treats to eager residents looking for a taste of something special.

Behind these everyday rhythms of community life, city leaders face tough decisions following the failed safety levy. The elimination of the Parks Director position and reductions in police and fire department staffing will save over $317,000, but have ignited concerns about emergency response capabilities. As Circleville navigates these financial challenges, at least residents will soon have a delicious new spot to contemplate the future while enjoying a scoop of premium custard.

πŸ’° Circleville faces tough budget cuts after safety levy fails. The city council is eliminating the Parks Director position, cutting two police officer positions, and reducing fire department staffing from seven to six. These measures will save over $317,000 following the levy's defeat, but have sparked concerns about public safety. The Firefighters Union has issued a public warning that reduced staffing compromises emergency response capabilities, while police staffing already falls below ordinance requirements. The Mayor acknowledged difficult decisions ahead as the city works to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
