Pickaway County • April 7, 2025
Good morning, Pickaway County. Central Ohio's waterways are flexing their muscle this week as both the Scioto and Ohio rivers surge to levels not seen in years. The Scioto has dramatically risen from a modest 2.5 feet to 13.5 feet in just days, leaving several local roads underwater, while downstream the Ohio River is expected to reach a daunting 60 feet by Monday—its highest point since 2018. With forecasters warning the Scioto could climb to 20 feet by April 8, residents should heed those ODOT warning signs and find alternate routes around flooded areas.
Amid the rising waters, there's a splash of Hollywood excitement as Circleville business owner Richie Verito recently walked the red carpet in California for "Down to the Felt," central Ohio's largest independent feature film. After its West Coast premiere, the Ohio-made movie will make appearances at film festivals in Cleveland and Columbus, bringing a ray of cinematic sunshine to what's shaping up to be a very soggy spring week.

🌊 Ohio River to reach highest level since 2018 on Monday. The river is expected to crest at 60 feet, reaching moderate flood stage as rain systems move out of the Cincinnati area. Significant flooding is anticipated in the East End and nearby areas, with backwater flooding likely for surrounding regions. The Great Miami River has already crested in moderate flood stage Saturday night, while scattered showers continue with five-day rainfall totals reaching 4-7 inches. Temperatures will drop below freezing Sunday night before climbing to mid-50s Monday.
🌊 Scioto River surges to dangerous levels in Circleville. The waterway has rapidly risen from 2.5 feet on March 30 to 13.5 feet by April 4, officially reaching minor flood stage. Several trouble spots including Hagerty Road, SR-752 underpass, and Island Road are already underwater. Forecasters warn conditions could worsen with river levels potentially reaching 20 feet by April 8, threatening areas not typically affected by flooding. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through standing water and to monitor local updates as ODOT places warning signs on affected roads.
