🎭 'A Christmas Story' musical auditions coming to Ohio's Stuart's Opera House. ABC Players is holding tryouts for all ages on August 23-24, 2025, with specific time slots for kids, teens, and adults. The beloved holiday tale follows nine-year-old Ralphie Parker's quest for the perfect Christmas gift - a Red Ryder BB gun. Performers should arrive 15 minutes early with completed online forms and plan to stay the entire audition time. Performances will run December 5-7 at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville.
🌊 Rural Action breathes life back into Ohio's "dead" streams. The nonprofit has revitalized waterways polluted by acid mine drainage from pre-regulated coal mining, transforming Monday Creek from a lifeless stream to one now supporting 37 fish species. Their watershed restoration work since 1994 involves weekly maintenance using limestone dosers to neutralize acidic water and restore proper pH levels. While significant progress has been made—improving approximately 74 stream miles—many tributaries still struggle with extreme pollution, showing the ongoing impact of Ohio's industrial past and the vital importance of clean water for ecosystem health.
