Good morning, Muskingum County. A sweet battle for national recognition is underway as Zanesville's own Donald's Donuts competes for the title of America's best donut shop in USA TODAY's contest. This beloved family institution, crafting daily delights since 1960, needs your votes before the June 9 deadline to bring hometown glory back to Maple Avenue, where second-generation owners continue founder Donald Warne's legacy of both classic and creative pastries.

Nature and justice make headlines elsewhere in our community. The Wilds' new Hellbender RV Campground opens May 30, offering both full-service and primitive camping experiences across 75 acres of conservation wonderland that's already home to rhinos and giraffes. In a darker turn, David Cole Jr. received a nine-year sentence for concealing his elderly father's body in a backyard shed after his wife poisoned the 80-year-old, a grim reminder of how family relationships can sometimes take tragic turns.
