Muskingum County • May 29, 2025
Good morning, Muskingum County. Nearly half of overdose deaths in our community involve recently incarcerated individuals – a sobering statistic that's now being addressed through a crucial $105,000 grant to the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department. This funding will launch a peer recovery support program in local jails, employing people with lived addiction experience to create more relatable connections with inmates transitioning back to community life.
The landscape of leadership and industry continues evolving across our region. At Maysville Schools, Joe Daniels brings 27 years of district experience as he steps into the superintendent role after serving as assistant superintendent for over a decade. Meanwhile, the former Conesville power plant site is finding new digital purpose as Aligned Data Centers transforms the industrial park property into their second Ohio data center campus, potentially bringing fresh economic energy to the area.

🔄 New funding tackles addiction crisis in Zanesville jails. The Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department received over $105,000 from the OneOhio Recovery Foundation to implement a peer recovery support program in local jails. Nearly 50% of overdose deaths in Muskingum County involved recently incarcerated individuals, with more than half released within just one year of their death. The program will hire peer recovery supporters who have personal experience with addiction, creating a more relatable support system. This collaborative initiative brings together the health department, Muskingum Behavioral Health, local law enforcement, and the OneOhio Recovery Foundation to provide crucial resources for inmates transitioning back into the community.
🍎 Longtime Maysville educator Joe Daniels steps up to superintendent role. After 27 years with the district, Daniels will replace Brian Blum who is leaving for another position in Montgomery County. Having served as teacher, principal, and most recently as assistant superintendent for 11 years, Daniels brings deep institutional knowledge to the position. The school board quickly selected him just one day after Blum's resignation announcement, citing his "unwavering loyalty" and "deep commitment" to student success. Daniels, whose own children attended Maysville schools, will tentatively begin his new role on August 1.
🏭 Old power plant site gets new digital life in Ohio. Aligned Data Centers has purchased property in the Conesville Industrial Park, formerly home to an American Electric Power plant that closed in 2020. The company specializes in transforming brownfield sites into data center campuses, having already completed similar projects in Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and Chicago. This marks Aligned's second Ohio development, following a project in Perkins Township where they're building a four-building hyperscale data center. The 2,500-acre industrial park is undergoing infrastructure improvements to accommodate various industries, potentially bringing economic stimulus to Coshocton.
