Muskingum County • April 28, 2025
Good morning, Muskingum County. Bridge replacements and roadwork are reshaping our travel routes this week as Flats Road closes for a full month beginning May 1, while Licking Road will see daytime closures near I-70 starting April 30. The temporary inconvenience comes with a silver lining though – these infrastructure improvements coincide with a burst of community activities, including the Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony and the Festival of PAWS where your four-legged friends can join you for a 5K and pet services.
On the public health front, our local mosquito control efforts just got a $3,450 boost from state grants aimed at preventing West Nile virus. The timing couldn't be better as we head into May, traditionally when these pesky insects begin their summer campaign. Meanwhile, in neighboring Guernsey County, a former village clerk's theft of $43,000 serves as a sobering reminder of accountability in public service, with Julie Neff now facing jail time and substantial restitution payments following her guilty plea.
