🌉 Bridge makeover

Muskingum County • April 4, 2025

Good morning, Muskingum County. The historic Blaine Hill Bridge is about to get a much-needed $13.52 million makeover after months of public concern over its deteriorating condition. Dating back to 1932 and honoring WWI veterans, this local landmark will undergo comprehensive rehabilitation starting in May, with completion now expected by summer 2026—nearly a year ahead of the original timeline. The ambitious project aims to preserve the bridge's historical significance while ensuring it meets modern safety standards.

Mother Nature seems determined to test our region's resilience this weekend, with flood watches in effect across nine east-central Ohio counties through Sunday morning. Meanwhile, two fresh faces are joining the Coshocton Foundation's Distribution Committee, as healthcare professional Brooke Bigrigg and OSU Extension educator Emily Marrison begin their five-year terms, bringing new perspectives to an organization that continues to support vital community initiatives.

🌉 Historic Blaine Hill Bridge prepares for major facelift after public outcry. ODOT crews recently sealed bridge joints to meet environmental requirements before construction begins in May on the $13.52 million rehabilitation project. The 1932 structure, which honors WWI veterans, has been completely closed since August due to dangerous deterioration and unsafe driving behaviors. Work includes replacing the deck, 400 box beams, and decorative railing, with completion expected by summer 2026 - nearly a year earlier than originally planned. The project aims to preserve the bridge's historical significance while modernizing its function with durable materials and resilient design elements.
