Good morning, Meigs County. October's crisp air has ushered in a season of community spirit across our region. The Belpre Area Ministries Food Bank is rallying neighbors to support local veterans through their upcoming food drive on October 18th. From canned goods to household essentials, your contributions at the Kroger's shopping center will make a meaningful difference in veterans' lives as we head into the holiday season.
Meanwhile, the spirit of togetherness flourished at two recent gatherings. Parkersburg Pride's community picnic brought 50-100 people together over hot dogs and fellowship at City Park, showcasing their ongoing mission to support the LGBTQ+ community. Just across town, the 63rd annual Harvest Moon Festival transformed the same park into an autumn wonderland, where 3,000 visitors enjoyed everything from traditional apple butter stirring to pony rides, all while supporting recreation programs for local children.

🍲 Belpre food drive aims to help local veterans this October. The Belpre Area Ministries Food Bank will collect donations on October 18 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Kroger's shopping center parking lot. Needed items include non-perishable foods like crackers, canned goods, pasta, and cereal, as well as essential household items such as soap, toilet paper, and detergent. Cash donations and checks made payable to Belpre Area Ministries are also welcome for this community effort to support veterans in need.
🌈 Parkersburg Pride brings community together over hot dogs and fellowship. Around 50-100 people gathered at City Park on Sunday for the free community picnic featuring classic cookout foods. The event is one of many monthly gatherings hosted by Parkersburg Pride, a non-profit established in 2018 to support the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond social events like bowling and skating parties, the organization is exploring initiatives including a free clinic for low-income families. Interested community members can attend monthly meetings at First Presbyterian Church or find more information on their website.
🌙 Parkersburg's Harvest Moon Festival brings fall magic to City Park. The 63rd annual event drew up to 3,000 attendees despite being condensed into a single day this year. Visitors enjoyed craft vendors, food trucks, pony rides, a petting zoo, and live music throughout the afternoon. Traditional apple butter stirring proved particularly popular among festival-goers. Proceeds support Wood County Recreation programs, including scholarships for children from families in need to participate in sports activities.
