Meigs County • September 22, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. The speed limit might say 60, but some drivers apparently see it as merely a suggestion. Just ask David McDaniel, who led deputies on a 110+ mph chase in a stolen Subaru before his impromptu demolition derby at the Ohio 7 intersection ended with handcuffs and a hospital visit. Meanwhile, Belpre Police have been equally busy, handing out citations like party favors to drivers running red lights and operating vehicles with suspended licenses.
Beyond the roadway drama, there's a rising star in our midst. Eighth-grader Averi Brannon is pirouetting her way to national dance success, recently placing 30th among 300 competitors at the New York City Dance Alliance Nationals. The straight-A student balances 10 weekly hours of training with academics and even taught herself to sew during COVID, crafting her own dancewear. Talk about turning pandemic lemons into entrepreneurial lemonade!

π High-speed chase ends with stolen vehicle crash and arrest. A Meigs County man, David McDaniel, faces charges after allegedly stealing a Subaru Outback from a Dollar General parking lot in Reno. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on Ohio 7, McDaniel fled at speeds exceeding 110 mph in a 60 mph zone. The pursuit ended when the stolen vehicle struck two other cars at the intersection of Ohio 7 and Farson Street. McDaniel was apprehended and taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center for treatment.
π¨ Belpre Police issue multiple citations for driving violations in September. The department released reports detailing several traffic infractions between September 8-11. Offenders were cited for red light violations and driving under suspension in Belpre and surrounding areas. Among those cited were Timothy Coffman and Kem King for running red lights, while Troy Johnson and Nickalas Tewkesbury faced charges for driving with suspended licenses. Tewkesbury received an additional citation for failing to maintain assured clear distance.
π Teen dancer turns passion into national success since age three. Averi Brannon, an eighth-grade student at Ohio Virtual Academy, trains 10 hours weekly while maintaining straight As and recently placed 30th out of 300 in New York City Dance Alliance Nationals. The Belpre native excels in multiple dance styles but particularly loves lyrical, describing it as "ballet-based with a little bit of contemporary movement." Beyond dance, Brannon taught herself to sew during COVID lockdown and now creates her own dancewear, envisioning a future career as both a choreographer and dancewear business owner after high school.
