Devarjaye "DJ" Daniel, who has battled brain and spinal cancer since 2018, will be sworn in by the Parkersburg Police Department on September 12. Despite being given just five months to live at diagnosis, DJ has defied odds and joined over 1,000 law enforcement agencies worldwide. The community will celebrate with a swearing-in ceremony at 11 a.m. at City Park's Bandshell, followed by a free concert featuring The Chris Darlington Band at Point Park Amphitheatre at 7 p.m.
⚖️ Wood County court handles flurry of criminal cases in one day. Magistrate Court processed numerous arraignments and pleas on May 27, with charges ranging from shoplifting to drug possession. Several defendants were released on personal recognizance bonds, including individuals charged with controlled substance possession who received $1,000 bonds. Domestic battery suspects faced stricter conditions, with one defendant held on a $3,000 surety bond. Traffic violations were also addressed, with defendants pleading guilty to offenses like speeding and operating vehicles without proper documentation.
🥧 Pie contest raises $7,310 for Jackson County community projects. The event brought together 17 adult and 2 youth bakers who submitted 29 pies for judging. Julye Knox claimed the grand champion title with her Loudonna Watkins Onion pie, while Josie Farris won the youth division with a Peach Crumb pie. After judging, all pies were auctioned off to generous community members who showed incredible support. The Jackson County Extension CEOS members expressed gratitude to all bakers, volunteers, and supporters who made the successful fundraiser possible.
