🚲 Pedals for purpose

Good morning, Meigs County. Talk about pedals with purpose! Twelve bicycles built by Mason County Career Center students are now rolling toward a meaningful mission—helping transportation-challenged adults reach jobs and medical appointments. These Toyota 4T Academy juniors didn't just assemble frames and wheels; they engineered independence while gaining hands-on manufacturing skills that could propel their own futures, whether toward college campuses or factory floors.

Meanwhile, history gallops back into relevance as the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride approaches. This Friday, three modern-day messengers will recreate the revolutionary warning at Marietta's Muskingum Park, while residents are encouraged to place two lights in windows—a nod to the "two if by sea" signal. And for those seeking modern medical solutions rather than colonial warnings, WVU Medicine's new St. Marys clinic brings urgent care and specialty services within reach of rural residents who previously traveled 30-40 minutes for healthcare.

🚲 Mason County students build bikes to help adults get around. Twelve bicycles constructed by Toyota 4T Academy juniors at Mason County Career Center were unveiled Thursday for distribution to transportation-needy adults. The project, which included creating instruction manuals, gave students hands-on manufacturing experience while applying Toyota's leadership principles and community improvement values. The Mason County Community Foundation will handle distributing the bikes to help recipients reach work and medical appointments. This initiative represents the 4T Academy's mission to provide students with technical skills and career pathways in manufacturing, whether college-bound or heading straight to employment.

🏇 America's most famous midnight ride turns 250 years old. The Sons of the American Revolution chapters in Parkersburg and Marietta are planning commemorations of Paul Revere's historic April 18, 1775 warning. Residents are encouraged to place two lights in their windows, mimicking the "two if by sea" signal from Boston's Old North Church. A reenactment featuring three horseback riders will take place at Muskingum Park in Marietta on Friday evening. The celebration highlights often-forgotten participants William Dawes and Samuel Prescott, who also rode to warn colonists of approaching British troops before the Revolutionary War began.

🏥 WVU Medicine brings healthcare closer to rural communities. The new Urgent Care and Specialty Clinic in St. Marys offers convenient medical services in a previously underserved area. The 5,000-square-foot facility features eight exam rooms, x-ray capabilities, and laboratory services, operating daily from 8am to 8pm without appointments needed. CEO Sean Smith emphasized how this expansion addresses healthcare deficiencies in rural areas, where elderly residents often struggle with transportation to facilities 30-40 minutes away. Within its first month, the clinic has already exceeded patient expectations, offering rotating specialty services including OB-GYN, general surgery, and urology.
