Meigs County • April 15, 2025
Good morning, Meigs County. Spring has officially hopped into the Mid-Ohio Valley, with the Easter Bunny leading around 90 participants through downtown Parkersburg's 15th annual parade. Market Street came alive with high school bands, community groups, and plenty of candy for onlookers, creating what organizer Kiki Angelos called "unbelievable" crowds that far surpassed last year's turnout.
The season of youth activities is in full swing across the region. At City Park and Southwood Park, 500-600 young anglers braved chilly temperatures for the 44th Annual Fishing Derby, where three-year-old Brooks was so excited he kissed his catch, while young performers can try out for "Hercules" at the Smoot Theatre on April 21. With roles available for K-12 students and no preparation needed, it's the perfect opportunity for local children to experience the magic of live theater before the April 26 performances.

🐰 Parkersburg springs to life with colorful Easter Parade downtown. The 15th annual Mid-Ohio Valley Easter Parade featured around 90 participants, from local businesses to church groups, marching through downtown on Saturday. Crowds lined Market Street to watch the Easter Bunny ride atop a fire truck, high school bands perform, and collect candy distributed by parade participants. "The crowds were unbelievable and they were happy," said parade organizer Kiki Angelos, who noted this year's event was "way bigger" than last year's celebration.
🎭 Young performers sought for "Hercules" production at Smoot Theatre. Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre adaptation will be held April 21 in Parkersburg, with roles available for children grades K-12. The production needs actors to play Hercules, philosophers, gods, and other mythological characters, with no preparation necessary for tryouts. Rehearsals will run throughout the week under professional directors who provide all costumes and scenery. The show will be presented twice on Saturday, April 26, with tickets available online.
🎣 Hundreds of kids cast lines in Parkersburg's annual fishing derby. The 44th Annual Parkersburg Fishing Derby drew 500-600 young anglers ages 3-14 to City Park and Southwood Park despite chilly temperatures. Family members helped children bait hooks and cast lines, passing down fishing knowledge to the next generation. Three-year-old Brooks Richards was so excited about his catch that he "kissed the fish when he pulled it out of the water," while 13-year-old Xavier Powell landed an impressive 15½-inch fish. Recreation director Bill Vincent emphasized the educational value, noting "if you know how to fish, you are experiencing something you will know for a lifetime."
