Jackson County • May 19, 2025
Good morning, Jackson County. Infrastructure decisions that will shape our region for decades are now in the spotlight as Ohio transportation officials sift through public feedback on the William S. Ritchie, Jr. Bridge replacement. With three distinct alternatives under consideration—from maintaining the existing bridge while building a new one to completely relocating the crossing—this vital Ohio-West Virginia connection awaits its future while funding decisions remain pending.
Leadership transitions are reshaping local governance as Gallia County Administrator Brian Rutherford announced his departure amid significant developments. The Commission closed one chapter successfully with the under-budget completion of Crown City's sewer improvements, while simultaneously opening new ones with $150,000 in approved grant applications for the Council on Aging and Huntington Township. Meanwhile, a somber reminder of roadway safety comes with news of Saturday's tragic motorcycle collision in Athens County that claimed the life of 65-year-old Nelsonville resident Clem Mace.

🌉 Ohio reviews public feedback on crucial bridge replacement plans. The Ohio Department of Transportation is evaluating comments about replacing the William S. Ritchie, Jr. Bridge connecting Ohio and West Virginia. Three alternatives are under consideration: building a new four-lane bridge while keeping the existing one, completely replacing the current bridge, or constructing a new bridge at a different location. The project remains in early stages without secured funding for detailed design or construction. Officials will meet with stakeholders after reviewing public input to determine the preferred alternative.
🏛️ Gallia County Commission tackles major projects amid administrative changes.
